Elfin Lakes in Summer

Our plans were foiled by those evil elves...

Trip up went smoothly. Nice, hot day, 3 hours to the shelter. Carried my tent but didn't bother using it since the shelter was almost empty and quite nice. Went for a swim in the larger elfin lake. Water was warm and the swim was quite enjoyable.

Went to sleep around midnight...or at least tried to. That's when the lil' elves intervened...I guess they weren't happy we were sleeping in their beds in their shelter...I'm saying their beds because there's no way those bunks were made for normal sized people. I'm almost 6' and I could not fit in those bunks. I hit my head on the side numerous times and the many sounds those lil' elves and their pet mice were making kept me up. I heard one of those mice chewing something for about half an hour...found out only in the morning it was in my friend's bunk eating her toilet paper.

Woke up in the morning only to find that the perfect blue skies of the evening before were replaced with thick fog, gray clouds and rain. Those elves must have called them down...no other explanation. So we saw no gargoyles, no heads of diamond, no opal cones. The opal cone couldn't be seen anyways...since some elf redirected that river to go near the bridge rather than under it.

We waited until about 2pm...no change in the weather so we headed home. Those elves haven't seen the last of me!!!
